Brain Fog or Dementia
06/04/2025

When things start to get a little hazy during women's perimenopause and menopause years, it can feel scary. Dr. Robyn Kutka explains the difference between signs of brain fog versus dementia.

Brain fog and dementia can feel similar at first, but they have key differences. Brain fog—common in perimenopause, stress, or sleep deprivation—causes temporary forgetfulness, trouble focusing, and mental fatigue. It often improves with rest, hormones, or lifestyle changes. Dementia, on the other hand, involves progressive and persistent memory loss, confusion about time or place, difficulty with language or problem-solving, and changes in personality or behavior. If memory issues are worsening over time or interfering with daily life, it’s important to seek medical evaluation.
