Androgen Levels in Menopause
01/08/2024

Androgens, referring to the male sex hormones, are still present in women, and this has led to a lot of confusion when it comes to women's health - specifically in menopause, when androgen levels can drop, leaving women with many symptoms that cannot be corrected by female sex hormone supplementation alone.

The research article explores the impact of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) supplementation on aspects of aging, cognition, and well-being in older adults. The study conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving participants aged 60 years and older. The research investigated the effects of DHEA supplementation on various parameters including muscle strength, bone density, cognitive function, and quality of life measures. The findings suggested that DHEA supplementation might have potential benefits in improving certain aspects of aging, particularly in maintaining muscle strength and enhancing mood-related indicators, without significant adverse effects observed during the study period.
