Top Ten Questions to Ask Your Doc
12/19/2022

When it comes to Doctors, we've heard everything from angels in white coats who take care of their ladies, to absolute... walnuts... who tell women that 'it's all in their head', or to 'just deal with it', or 'just use more lube', or some combination of idiocy that would be funny if it weren't our health (and our sanity) on the line.

In fact, studies found that only 1 in 4 doctors have any kind of specialized menopause training, and a lot of menopause research is woefully outdated. Thankfully, we're trying to change that, which is why we have an entire page dedicated to the latest menopause research and science!

But, the other thing you can do is advocate for yourself (and future generations of women!), by researching, reading, and being prepared! Below is a list of ten questions you can take to your doctor to ensure you are informed and helped in the best way possible, and to make things even easier, we've included a PDF you can print to take to the doc to ensure you are fully prepared!

The Questions

  1. I have these (list) of symptoms – what are my options for resolving these?
  2. Which menopause symptoms will go away with time and which will get worse?
  3. What are the hormone changes I will experience after menopause?
  4. What are my options for staying healthy and well with optimal hormone levels?
  5. What actions can I take with my food choices to optimize my hormones and my health?
  6. What is there in my lifestyle that increases my risk for serious illness like diabetes, cancer, stroke or heart attack?
  7. What are my options for improving my sleep?
  8. What type of exercise is good for my bones?
  9. How can I make sure I still have plenty of energy for the things I love to do?
  10. What are tests that we could run to make sure we catch any issues before they develop into health conditions?

Remember, there is nothing wrong with getting a second opinion - if your doc isn't listening and advocating for you, or their advice doesn't sit right, seek another professional opinion to assuage your concerns!
