Why saliva, not blood?

The question we get most: which test is best? Trick question. There's no perfect hormone test anywhere — every one of them catches a moving target mid-leap. Blood and saliva just ask different things.

Blood measures your total hormones, the clinical standard your provider knows by heart.

Saliva measures the free, unbound fraction, the part not handcuffed to carrier proteins, sampled across your day.

Neither is the whole story, and that was never the goal. The goal is walking in with something to point at instead of 'I dunno, I just feel off.'

Which panel is right for you?

Both panels test the same six sex hormones: Estriol, Estradiol, Estrone, Progesterone, Testosterone, and DHEA. The Menopause Hormone Panel stops there — it's the full sex hormone picture, and for many women, that's exactly what they need.

The Comprehensive Plus Panel adds Cortisol, measured four times across the day. That four-point reading lets the lab plot your Cortisol Curve — how your stress hormone rises and falls from morning to night. If stress, energy crashes, or sleep are part of what you're trying to figure out, that cortisol picture adds a layer the six-hormone panel can't provide.

What is the difference between the Menopause Hormone Panel and the Comprehensive Plus?

The main difference is the number of hormones tested. The Comprehensive Plus has everything in the Menopause Panel, plus Cortisol measured four times across the day — 10 hormones total. That full cortisol picture lets the lab plot your Cortisol Curve, giving you a complete view of how your stress hormone moves throughout the day. The Menopause Hormone Panel tests the six sex hormones only.

How long does it take to get my results?

From the time FedEx picks up your sample, expect 7–10 business days for lab processing and report delivery. We'll email you when your results are ready to access.

How do I access my results?

You'll receive an email with instructions for setting up access to your Lab Portal. Take a few minutes to read through them and you'll be downloading your report in no time.

Why might my doctor's tests show "normal" while my saliva results look different?

'Normal' isn't the same as 'feeling like yourself.' Reference ranges show what's typical for your age group, which is a fact about a population, not a promise about you. Your report hands you those numbers in plain language, so you and your provider start from information, not a hunch.

Why isn't saliva testing covered by insurance?

Saliva hormone testing has been around for decades, but Medicare generally doesn't cover it, and many private insurers still classify it as experimental. It's an odd gap — but for now it's typically out of pocket.

What is estrone, and why test it?

Estrone is one of the three major estrogens and usually the dominant one in post-menopausal women. Unlike estradiol, estrone levels can vary considerably, and levels that consistently run high are worth keeping an eye on and discussing with your healthcare provider. Knowing where yours sits is part of getting a full picture of your estrogen balance.
